about

Selected Tracker Works is a collection of tunes written from 2021 - 2022 exclusively using the Polyend Tracker, an 8-channel hardware sample-based tracker.

I first picked up the Polyend Tracker in late 2020 - I remember when I first read about it earlier in the year, and at the time I thought "well, what's the point in that? Why not just use a laptop with OpenMPT or something?". As time went by and as the COVID-19 lockdown continued, I thought it'd be great to have a hardware setup I could take with me on walks and I started to come around to the idea of what the Polyend Tracker was all about.

I first started writing music using trackers in the mid-90s, so the Polyend Tracker has been an absolute joy to work with on a personal level - on more than one occasion it has reminded me of why I got into writing music in the first place, and while some may find the limitations restrictive I found it an absolute joy to squeeze as much as I could out of the available channels and then unravel complete tunes around that.

These tunes were written in various gardens, kitchens, living rooms, and woods. I ended up bouncing the stems from the Polyend Tracker and giving them a bit of mix tweaking via Cubase, but 95% of what you hear comes straight from the Tracker - no additional composition of arrangement was doine outside of the Tracker itself.
